'Anonymous' Hackers Group Threat to New York Stock Exchange

In class we have been talking about the topic of hacking, and it really interested me so I decided to write my article on this:

This threat is so serious that the anonymous hackers are saying they plan to erase the New York stock exchange completely from the internet. The first threat was made on October 5th 2011, and was not taken seriously into consideration. Shortly after there was a YouTube video posted concluding the following: "Those who are going to be part of the attack have a message to the NYSE: We have you because we don't like you. We are all anonymous. We are all one legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. NYSE, expect those of us who plan to destroy you."
It is said that this group has previously hacked other companies with high levels of security, such as bank of America, and the sonly play station network. The most dangerous part was weather anonymous was going to tamper with stocks or just try to shut down the homepage of the website.
This goes to show that each year we progress forward in technology, the more that hackers are able to do. Although firewalls are anti-virus software’s are becoming stronger as well, there has been cases of people finding their way around them.
I believe the government really needs to step in and increase the security on some specific sites. Especially high populated sites like the New York stock exchange. If hackers were able to take control of the site and start falsely changing around the numbers of stocks and such is would cause a catastrophe. People and companies rely on the stock exchange so much. If they were to acquire false numbers they might sell, or buy incorrect stocks, which again in turn would cause chaos, considering the numbers were not legit.
Hackers are brilliant people, and whether it’s for pleasure or revenge, they will spend their time delicately until their job is done, and most of the time are able to go under the radar as anonymous.

  1. Hey Kevin I found your post from ABC News about an anonymous hacker’s group threat to the New York Stock Exchange. Personally I had no idea there was this kind of threat made to the New York Stock Exchange and now that I have read your blog post I realize how scary a threat like this is. As technology keeps evolving and growing so do hackers. Hackers today are as dangerous as ever because as technology grows so does the capability of what hackers can do. If this group can hack one of the country’s top banks websites such as Bank of America, I feel this group has the capability to get into anywhere, especially the New York Stock Exchange because they have already threatened them. This makes me want to protect my own information even more now because if hackers can get into top companies websites they certainly can get into mine.

  2. Damn, Kevin this was an interesting knowing that people are actually trying to kill the entire stock exchange. I agree with Alister how he said how hackers todat are so dangerous as ever. Just thinking about how in our society we rely so much on computers and al our files and things we need to survie or live are in our computers. The fact that hackers can easily go into something as the New York stock exchange makes me really want to protect so much of my own information. Just the feeling of knowing they can easily go into your wallet with out them evening being there makes you really worry about people and how they can easily just go into your account an take money without you even knowing.good article really liked it.,
