four solutions to keep you secure, USA Today

The article I chose to read was in the USA Today Technology section and was titled, “4 solutions to keep you secure” by Alice Troung. This article relates directly to our most recent class discussion about security and keeping our own personal devices such as laptops, tablets and cell phones secure. This article gave four new and innovative solutions to personal devices and information secure. The first solution is called 1Password and is a new a unique way to keep all your various passwords secure. 1Password is a unique program available for windows, android and apple computers and mobile devices that stores all your passwords in one place that is secure by one master password. Once the program is downloaded on your device, whenever you enter in a password, 1Password asks if you would like to save this information. This master password obviously must be tough to crack and also allows you to have it prompt you to enter in this password every couple of hours or this device disables itself. The is beneficial in businessbecuse within a company there are many passwords to account and 1Password can help make all these passwords secure. The second solution is another unique idea called trashmail. Trashmail is another cool idea that’s allows you to create a temporary email address to reduce the huge amount of spam that comes from signing up for something online. Trashmail allows you to set an expiration date for the email address so it can just be used to confirm a password or when signing up for ordering from a website.  This idea helps eliminate spam and junk mail coming into your primary email address that could contain viruses.  Trashmail also allows has unlimited forwards so you can forward important emails to your primary address. The third solution is called Lacie Rugged Safe. This is exactly what it sounds like, a secure safe that allows you to store important files with up to 250 gigs of memory. The Lacie Rugged Safe has finger print access with the capability to store up to ten figure prints. This device is also protected by an AES 128-bit encryption, which mean if the drive is removed your files don’t go with it. This is another important security solution because it allows you to go beyond passwords and use a better alternative with fingerprint recognition technology to make sure only select people have access to your files. This would also be beneficial in business because it is the most secure way to protect your files and information by only giving access to select personnel in your company. The fourth and final solution is not a program but rather a physical means of keeping your device secure the Targus Defcon 1 security system. This is the top of the line laptop lock that includes a motion sensor, 95 decibel alarm and Kevlar reinforced steel cables to lock up your computer. This solution is important to security because it protects against maybe the most dangerous aspect of security, someone stealing your entire device. One your device is stolen the hacker has unlimited time to crack your passwords and get to your information. By using this type of laptop lock it makes it virtually impossible for someone to steal your device because of the reinforced cable and alarm system that is louder then most speacker systems. This is beneficial in business because often company laptops travel with the employee which brings the risk of the laptop being stolen on a daily basis. Personally I feel all this solutions are beneficial to to not only businesses but also for myself. After reading this article I am considering using the 1Password application and also creating a Trashmail account.
