Cyber Warfare The Next
Front In The Middle East Conflict?
1/16/2012
Websites for the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange and El Al,
Israel’s national airline were hit by anonymous hackers. They believe this can
be the start of a cyber war. Hackers created an overload of access attempts to
disrupt the sites. No flights were endangered, but many Israelis are worried
about the attacks. This could result in a new form of terrorism.
“We are putting up blocks to the hackers,” Yoni Shemesh
of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange told Israel Radio hours after the attack began.
“It is a real cyber war.”
Hacking used to be looked at as harmless, almost like
someone just playing a simple joke on another. Today it has escalated to a
whole new level. Terrorist are going to be attempting to hack into large information
systems, potentially being able to learn of secret Intel. The fact that every
single day we become more and more reliant on technology, there will be a day
when we rely solely on technology (If that day is not already here), and when
systems that we rely on are getting hacked and tampered with, it has potential
to cause catastrophic events.
Hackers can bring down power plants, cause remote
explosions, shut down utilities, shut down security systems, hack into import important
infrastructure and more. Here is an example posted by the original article: http://articles.latimes.com/2011/mar/28/nation/la-na-cyber-war-20110328/
This is just another way terrorist can create attacks on enemies.
I beleive in the future they are going to need to build large security walls to
prevent hackers from just “walking” rite in and talking whatever they so
please. The only scary part is, if there is a way to put up a wall, then there
is almost always a way to take it down.

Kevin I just read your blog and I knew this was a growing problem with technology but I had no idea that it was getting to be this serious. I am alarmed about this problem because we are relying more and more on technology everyday as you said and we are at risk everyday as a result of relying on the use of technology. If this problem continues to grow many countries will be susceptible to the harsh effects of cyber attacks. This proves that not everything is safe from these threats and terrorists can take advantage of this way to harm others in the future. As Americans we feel like we are safe from terrorism but this article has brought to my attention that no one is safe from these types of cyber attacks. I believe that we should take into account the dangers of these types of attacks and learn to prevent them from happening.
