This article is from Bloomberg business week and is titled “China E-Commerce May Pass U.S. in 2015, Boston Consulting Says”. This article explains that most of China’s population is using online sources to purchase products. The article states that if China stays at this same rate of using e-commerce it will quadruple its use by 2015 according to Boston consulting. China is relying a lot more on e-commerce than the United States due to the fact that China has the biggest number of Internet users, with 485 million as of June 2011. China also has a larger population than the United States and therefore China has the most internet users and they all tend to shop online. This is becoming a problem for “brick and mortar” businesses in China because people are shopping online instead of going to stores and purchasing products. As compared to the United States many of us still purchase products at department stores and local businesses but we also use e-commerce as another way to get products but not as much as China according to the article. I believe that e-commerce has many pros and cons. Some pros are it is very convenient to shop using the internet, you can get online discounts and it is saves the sometimes frustrating trips to malls and department stores. On the other hand some cons to e-commerce can be that your products may be lost in shipping which has happened to me. Also your packages may not arrive on time which has also happened to me. It can hurt stores and malls because people do not tend to purchase products at these locations. E-commerce can be very convenient but I think that going to a store and talking with people face to face or trying on products before you buy them is the best way to shop. I personally do not like shopping online because I have had so many bad experiences with it. I have had products lost, damaged, not fit, and not arrive on time. The only things I do buy online are tickets and shoes because they are much cheaper online. I may not like e-commerce but after reading this article I now know that China does.

  1. Interesting max. thinking that a country as big as china has that type of problem were that people arent buying things is interesting. I agree with what your saying about the pros and cons of ordering items and actually going to the store because it has happened to me. I just think thats odd that China is relying a lot more on e-commerce than the United States due to the fact that China has the biggest number of Internet users, with 485 million as of June 2011.to me i feel that you can only do so much online because like you said stuff gets damaged and lost. Really interesting again about how china is struggling with that many people who live there
