We recently talked about privacy in class. Discussing how certain sites as in Face book, twitter or even MySpace have privacy settings that they can either be blocked or even free for everyone to see. Think about it have you ever thought that people could know so much about you just from your twitter or Face book. We never easily thought of those kind of social media sites to be the ones who would track our every move. But maybe we did? But we never would think of an easy search engine in Google as one of those sites that know everything about us. Or they always have but we just never noticed that Google tracks it all. The article I read had stated, “Google gets new privacy policy
Google has every e-mail you ever sent or received on Gmail. It has every search you ever made, the contents of every chat you ever had over Google Talk. It holds a record of every telephone conversation you had using Google Voice, it knows every Google Alert you've set up. It has your Google Calendar with all content going back as far as you've used it, including everything you've done every day since then. It knows your contact list with all the information you may have included about yourself and the people you know. It has your Picasa pictures, your news page configuration, indicating what topics you're most interested in. And so on. They follow you with out you even knowing completely. A search engine in Google the one that every person from five years of age to the elderly use. It has all that information on it. They follow you just like you follow someone on twitter and its creepy because we all use that as our main search engine, and knowing they keep all of that information really makes you think to yourself who is really out there knowing all of this and keeping this information. Google can even track searches on your computer when you're not logged in for up to six months. You’ve done it, said it, clicked it, searched it, Googled it. You can never undo it or unclick it. It stays there forever. Unless the people demand that government order a stop to it. This to me just shows you how its slowly starting to come that the government is trying to get evolved in everything that your doing and making things so much more conservative and following what your doing.

ReplyDeleteD-Rock,
ReplyDeleteInteresting blog post, I looked a little further into the article you read and it was really interesting. It is unbelievable to think how far Google has come. Not too long ago, people couldn’t even fathom the idea of the technology we have today. Now Google is able to finish your sentences for you as you’re typing them. I believe that the article goes both ways, Its saying is can be a good and a bad thing that Google knows everything, in some cases it makes out lives easier and more convenient in a sense that Google chrome knows that I want to go on face book as soon as I type the “F” in the search bar. I agree completely though that it is very creepy knowing that almost everything we do technologically has a ghost file, and it will remain there for a lifetime until the government is able to do something about it.
