Apple Protest

"Ethical iPhone Protests Hit Apple Stores"

I read an article about how people protested Apple stores around the world on Thursday to deliver petitions calling for reforms in the working conditions at factories run by Apple's suppliers in China and other overseas locations.  This happens to be the second article I have read about this and I am so glad that this issue is being recognized.  250,000 people have asked Apple to change its ways.  If that isn’t enough I don’t know what is.  These people know that what they are doing is going to be hard considering Apple is a huge corporation and they don’t exactly see what they are doing wrong.  Another twist I talked about while I was in class was the fact that Foxconn is the place where all this is happening and that is not exactly Apples business.  Foxconn is its own business, Apple products are just produced there.  So is apple to blame for what is happening at Foxconn?  Foxconn is probably the company that these protesters need to be protesting.  The people of Foxconn are making less then $1.00 a week to make iPads, which are currently selling for $499.00 in the US.  Why are these people working ridiculous hours and making no money if the iPad is a pretty big seller?

This issue could turn into something big for Apple, this could demote sales.  No matter how good the product is people are clearly not okay with this work labor going on across seas.  I am relieved to see that people are really taking this seriously.  I think this issue wont be going away until the people of Apple realize they need to step in at Foxconn and take some action in paying the workers.  Even if Apple does it them selves and pays these workers these people deserve more then $1.00 a week for the amount of hours they are working each day.

People who work at Foxconn have commit suicide because of these conditions and it is truly devastating to know that someone was so miserable they ended there life.  What are the steps that Apple will take next? I hope they make the right choice or they could lose a lot of Apple customers.

  1. I think that apple should step in because no one should have to work under those types of conditions that are so that that I makes the workers want to commit suicide I think that apple should step in and maybe make a new contract with this company so the workers can get more money for what they are doing because I mean a dollar an hour is ridiculous even if they are only screwing the thing together they are still a part of the team that makes the product. O r another solution is maybe send over some of the apple workers to work over in that company and maybe change the type of work environment that they are having to deal with over their because I had heard that apple is one of the best places to work because its such a nice work eviorment that everyone can get more work done because they like to come to work and I think that’s what they need over at that other company until they could work out another contract.
