“Why Pinterest Trumps Facebook at Social Commerce, For Now”
Author - Jeff Bercovici
I decided to choose this article because there is a constant debate between Facebook and pinterest. I personally do not have a pinterest but I hear great things about it. It is an up and coming social site much like the growing Tumblr. This article scratches the surface on what these websites are doing. It compares Facebook to going out with friends to a bar and how Pinterest is like going to a craft fair. You don’t care about people selling things at a bar, in fact it’s annoying but at the craft fair it’s normal. It is very true that when on Facebook no one cares about what is going on the sidebars! I personally could not name any off the top of my head! On pinterest however it is not uncommon to see something you like, or pay attention to the things that pop up, because they are relevant to what they are doing. The article also discusses how Facebook was wrong about their expected reaction to the advertisements on the side of the screen. They thought that because they had such specific audiences the ads would pay for themselves do to target markets, but as we all know we don’t pay attention.
I agree with everything in this article, it was a great read and made me want to get a pinterest. It is very quick so I suggest everyone read it!!
