After reading this article I discovered many social media websites that I was unaware existed. The article had 10 social medias that each had a short paragraph for a brief description of there functions. Included in the list of websites were more commonly known medias such as Facebook and Twitter, but also less advertised companys such as Klout and Sprout Social. Each description paragraph just gave a little insight on what each social media specifically does and how they differ from the many others out there.
For example, a social media site called HootSuite allows its users to monitor multiple social networks from just a single dashboard.
So users can view Facebook and Twitter newsfeeds by just looking on their HootSuite account page. I found this to be interesting because I know many people that are constantly checking their Twitter or Facebook, this company has given people a way to do both at the same time; something simple, but also very effective for all the social media addicts.
Google Analytics was also an interesting topic to look at. Its main function is to provide integrated reporting for the Google +1 button. Google Analytics is the "mother of all monitoring programs." This is said because using Analytics you are able to see how content is being shared through these social medias such as Facebook and Twitter, for example the "like" button on Facebook, or the "retweet" button for Twitter.
All and all I found this article to be very informational in certain areas, but to be some what blank and boring in others. Under certain categories such as Facebook and Google Analytics there was a large amount of info telling me what specific duties these companys can perform. Other headlines were less specific and just described briefly a tool that is used by many networking systems, such as Unilyzer. I took some valuable information out of this article and am glad I chose it.
Very interesting blog Tyler. Its interesting to know that there are more social media pages. The one thing that caught me as curious and creepy was the hootsuite. Knowing that I could check both my page on twitter and my page on facebook makes me think damn that’s productive. What you said about the google analytics or google 1+ was interesting. How you said Google Analytics is the "mother of all monitoring programs." This is said because using Analytics you are able to see how content is being shared through these social medias such as Facebook and Twitter, for example the "like" button on Facebook, or the "retweet" button for Twitter. That to me was one of very odd I did a blog on google and how they keep track of everything you do and did by saving everything. Interesting blog I may think of creating one of these pages
ReplyDeleteTyler, I liked that you learned how to use newer technology. I have also used some of these sites before and I am a frequent tweeter. There is a thing called tweet deck that links your Facebook to your twitter as well. I think people have realized that twitter and Facebook are important in this day and age and are trying to combine how to use both of them. I am wondering how many people will eventually start to use sites like this to combine the two, because as of right now Facebook is starting to fade out and twitter is the new big thing, so using both might not be as appealing to people. I have also heard of Google + and I don’t know how successful it is going to be. I know I am not going to have an account with that site because it personally do not bother using Facebook anymore. All in all I think you did a really good job showing what other sites are available and I think people should take advantage of these sites!
