Movie Piracy

Pirating movies

Movie piracy is on the rise and no one seems to understand if it is illegal or not. It is a serious offense, and yet even the few people that know the truth keep doing what they want besides the fact. “There is a Robin Hood effect – most people perceive celebrities and studios to be rich already, and as a result don’t think of movie downloading as a big deal, “commented Kaan Yigit, Study Director. The increasing ease of downloading movies, through broadband and compression technologies, along with high movie ticket prices, and wide film availability online were cited as factors driving consumers to download. Many studies have been made, and it is not only happening in just America, but all around the globe too. Numerous people are downloading, uploading, transferring, configuring, and copying what they get for profit while movie industries are losing billions of dollars to these people. So yes, you can be charged for downloading movies off of Limewire or something, and if you have been a busy bee downloading off of a file sharing program you could be fined for copyright infringement and then sued for compensation which can amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Pirating movies is definitely is not the thing to do, and it surprises me that all these thing are able to remain

out there for such open use. What mainly goes through my mind is the billions of dollars that the movie

industry is losing. But, really though it amazes how movies that are still in theaters are basically just waiting

for me to download and use to show my friends. I mean why else do you think that so many people are

doing this? They do it to keep themselves entertained and it doesn’t cost them any money to do so. By doing

this they get hours of entertainment for free and all it took was some time to let it download onto the

computer. I also feel as though in distant future torrenting files will still be around, and the only difference will

be that it will be much quicker.

  1. I know people who pirate movies and I cant understand it. I don’t understand how it is available and how more people aren’t getting caught. I think driving to the movie store and renting a movie, or going to redbox is pretty easy. You can also go to Best Buy and buy the movie and have it longer then you would if you download illegally. Also downloading never works right and can ruin the quality of the movie. Why are people risking thousands of dollars when a movie costs like 25 bucks or less at the store to buy it and renting is only a few dollars for a couple nights.
With all the advances in technology we also have on demand available at in homes now which people can take advantage of without even leaving their homes. I just think there are so many alternatives that people should not be pirating.

  2. I think that this is a big issue with movies and music and even now games. people don't want to pay for things any more so they steal them its crazy. I know that it is easy to just go online start using a downloading site like lime wire, but the ethics behind that is bad.Cause you are taking away from money that does not belong to you. there are so many other ways to do things use a online movie streamer like Netflix. You could go out an watch the movie or even redbox it no there are so many entertainment options. I think there should be more policies and enforcement to prevent this from happening. It would be the only fair way to get people from pirating movies.
