The article I chose to read is “10 Security
Trends to watch in 2012” by Mathew J. Swartz. In his article he states that 2012
will have many security changes for businesses and he highlights it with 10. The
first is, Breaches are now inevitable, meaning that a business is no longer
worried about if they get hacked but when they will get hacked. The second is
that cyber espionage will continue throughout the world. The next is mobile
malware will continue to increase for cell phones, especially one that operate with
an Android operating system. The fourth is mobile devices such as cell phones
and tablets will get anti-theft protection. The fifth is the spear phishing scourge
continues and the sixth is social engineering attacks such as fake Paypal scams
will hit social networking sites. The seventh is bonnets keep infiltrating businesses
with cybercrime toolkits to steal business information. Another point is breach
notification like when a hacker steals a customer’s information from a business’s
database gains greater traction. The ninth is the possible creation of a
government agency protecting the nation’s critical cyber infrastructure. The final
is code is code gets externally reviewed meaning developers must code cleanly
to prevent security flaws.
To me
there are a few trends I find more significant because they will affect my
daily life. The first is the third trend, mobile malware continues to increase.
Personally it is hard to picture having to worry about protecting my phone from
malware on daily basis and having to install malware protection on not only my
laptop but my computer. The thought of all the information on my phone being at
risk now and that hackers can wirelessly attack it, is a scary thought. The second trend I found most significant is
the fourth trend of mobile devices getting anti theft protection. Personally I have an IPhone which as the find
my phone application where I can locate my phone anywhere on a map or remotely
wipe it if it is stolen. With the trend going towards employees using their personal
mobile devices for business purposes it is important to have this technology
available of every phone in case it is lost or stolen.
I thought that the article you summarized is very interesting because it's one of the most talked about topics in the news, Security and all forms of it. People now days are under attack by intelligent hackers. I think it's going to continue to be an issue in our society because hackers can ruin people’s lives but even less serious they can be extremely costly to fix or get rid of. I also didn't like the malware that can get into phones. I really don't like that because there are a lot of contacts in my phone and I don't know how comfortable I would be having a hacker having access to all of those names and numbers. I hope that in the near future we can at least protect our own computers and cell phones because they commonly contain the most personal information. I also hope that we can narrow the number of hackers by increasing the number of personnel trying to catch them.
ReplyDeletei also agree with wes this is a very popular topic they will effect us all in different ways. hackers get all your personal info open up credit cards and ruin your life this is deff not right and needs to be stopped.
