The World Is Flat?

Thomas Friedman’s ten reasons why the world is “flat”, analyzes how over the past century our globalization efforts. He explains how we got to be the way we are today with a strong international market for various reasons around business. I believed that the most important flatteners included the collapse of the Berlin Wall in late 1989. I believe that it represents the fall of communism, which is exactly what our own country doesn’t want. As of late 1989, there were software and computer companies beginning their voyage to brighten our technological future. In 1989, various computer programs were used to speed up the process of information. Word processer was one of the best inventions similar to the light bulb because it sparked so many other technological advances. The second most important leveler includes the creation of Netscape in 1995. Creating a network that could be used all over the world by all different types of people. By creating Netscape, both young and old could use a computer and research anything under the sun. With the internet available, education is endless. In order for our society as a whole to move forward we must analyze everything known to man in order to properly development. Lastly, I believe all of our new state of the art music players and held devices that help life that much easier. If there were no technological advances, how could we be as efficient? I believe that global socialization is a key factor in our global economies strength. I also believe that it is the knowledge that is developed by our generation that can change the world. We know that we need to develop our school programs and ensure that students stay in school until they at least graduate high school or reach the age of 18. I think that our economy will turn around very soon, and like Thomas Friedman stated, the Berlin Wall collapse ended communism. If that was true then it’s understood that our economical history compares to when we were ending World War 2. I enjoyed listening to Thomas Friedman; he is an extremely bright man.

  1. Hey wes,
First off I really enjoyed your blog and I feel the picture you used was also a nice addition to your response. I also agree with the three flatteners you found most significant. When the Berlin wall fell in 1989 it ended communism and started the growth of technology. I also agree with you that the word processor is one of the best inventions of our time. I can’t imagine having to hand write a seven page essay and all of the other writing assignment I have done in my high school and college career. I also like your point about Netscape and how it allowed everyone person in the world young and old to have access to the information on the internet. Lastly your point about all of our new technologies like cell phones has allowed people to be able to communicate and socialize all over the globe. I too believe if there were no technological advances our world would not be as efficient as it is today and I look forward to al of the new technologies we will see in our life time.
