After watching the video in class about Friedman’s Ten Flatteners and from reading the textbook I would say he has some really interesting and valid points on why the world is flat and not round. First off he discusses the “steroids” of the world. Technology. Everything in this world revolves its self around the different types of technology. We are able to do everything and anything at the click of a button. For example, so many people use email instead of regular stamped mail because it gets from point A to point B in the matter of twenty seconds http://www.businessknowhow.com/directmail/ideas/compare.htm.
Another reason why the world is a flattener is the explanation of off shoring. Everything you call someone for tech support for some company you are most likely calling China or India. The ability to be able to offshore certain tasks from one location to another is absolutely incredible. Think about all the cars we have in the United States, I bet if we all opened the hoods to our cars almost every part will say built in China. We are able to get resources built in one place and assemble them in another.
This whole idea about the world being a flattener is absolutely eye opening. Friedman’s ideas all come from the idea on how much technology plays a role in the world. With the speed that everyone is capable of doing everything at, it’s allows the world to be communicating in the matter of seconds. For example, if my dad is in Europe, all I have to do is turn on my computer and hit the Skype button and I could be talking to him in the matter of seconds. Ever since the fall of the Berlin walls the idea that the world is one market has been able to make Friedman’s marketing points factual in my opinion.
