Hello, my name is Wes Carter I'm from Wilbraham, MA, Home of Friendly's Ice Cream Corporation. I’m currently a junior at
Nichols College where I’m a General Business major. After college, I intend to use my
knowledge gained here to ultimately own my own business. My first name Wesley was chosen by my father who learned the name from a sitcom in the ‘80’s. My middle name Henry was after my grandfather Henry Carter who is a World War 2 Veteran. My last name Carter was originally Charette prior to my ancestors moving to America from Canada in the 1900’s. My great-grandfather wanted our family to have a less “immigrant-like” name, so he changed it to a strong English last name. In fact, my whole name is practically all English but I’m not even English, I’m French Canadian, Native American (Mic-Mac and Cherokee tribes) Polish and Dutch.
I have been a working tax-payer since 2006. At age 16, I began working at Leslie's Pool Supply
as a Sales Associate. I have worked as a seasonal employee each year since
2006.In 2010, after consistent summers of sales experience I was promoted to Lead Sales Associate. Other
than working for a pool supply company, I have also worked with my father as a
painter since 2007. I understand the importance of having working information
systems in everyday business. I have been interested in business since I was in
middle school and I have learned that understanding new technologies is a key
component of becoming a successful businessman. In my spare time, I enjoy
managing sport teams, playing soccer, hockey, and snowboarding. Since freshman year in highschool in high school I have been managing sports teams which have given me exquisite experience in the management field. I have managed over 150+ athletes in both soccer and hockey. It began as a hobby and developed into a business where my soccer team, Wilbraham FC now fields top Division 1 athletes who have potential to play professionally.
Throughout this class, I hope to gain
more knowledge about how companies use their own techniques to go about their
everyday business with management information systems. While working with Leslie’s, I have been tested with
computers software and have learned firsthand that computers can confuse, distress, and enrage employees. I also understand the importance of information systems in the everyday business world as many businesses operate through computers.
The article about the career possibilities in information systems can pay a decent salary if properly prepared through an undergraduate program as well as obtaining an MBA. I have been interested in computers in my past, I just don't feel like I'm as witty as others when it comes to engineering information systems.
Hey wes,
ReplyDeleteI liked your blog post. I always notice the big "Home of Friendly's" sign on the masspike in Wilbraham when I drive to and from school. I actually worked at Friendly's as a waiter this past summer. Also I think the story about your grandfather changing your last name to sound more American is funny too. I too have been a working taxpayer since about 2006 as well, my first job was in a video store in my town. I also find it interesting you work at a pool store, I feel like that would be a fun job trying to sell pools to people.
