In my opinion, I believe that NetScape, is Thomas Friedman's biggest and most significant flattener. On August 9, 1995 the launch of Netscape popularized the Internet and World Wide Web, which would eventually create a huge entity that is a part of everyone's life, and for a few people, a little to much.
The internet is now taking over the way we do everything, don't get me wrong I LOVE the internet. Facebook, Google, Twitter and Email make my life so much easier. Is there really a need though? What was wrong with sending letters, writing to someone, reading the newspaper and looking things up in books? Ask any typical college student and they have no idea what the Dewey Decimal System is. The internet has taken away from children growing up, instead of playing outside on bike's, 10 year olds are updating there facebook status.
In this article states that 93% of people now get there news from some sort of social media site. Thats scary!

ReplyDeletePersonally I don't see why its such a big deal that the internet has become so popular. Obviously there are are many unnecessary things that we have created that make us a lot lazier in comparison to our ancestors who were doing everything on their own so to speak. But, I think that its great that we have something that makes our generation special. We and future generations just have to know that there is more to life than just sitting at home being consumed by our technological distractions. We gain so much from our computers. They make us aware, grant us information on the spot instead of flipping through a book trying to find the answer, and the ability to see the entertainment we want to see whenever we want. When you weigh out the pros and cons the pros greatly surpass.
