Hello class my name is Alistair Black and I am currently a
junior here at Nichols College. When I first came to Nichols I was a Sport
Management major but after realizing I was not only interested in working in
sport I changed my major to Management and kept Sport Management as my minor. I
am from West Stockbridge Massachusetts, which is a small town in western mass.
West Stockbridge is part of Berkshire County which is a popular tourist attraction
for people in the city who want to come and see leaves on the trees in the fall
and get away to see nature. As locals we refer to them as “leaf peepers”. I work year round at an Under Armour store at
the Prime outlets in Lee MA and have worked there since the store opened in
July of 2009. I enjoy working retail because every day I get paid to interact
with people every day, even though I deal with plenty of rude customers as well.
Also Under Armour has been a great company to work for and I hope to one day
work at corporate for them.
From this course I hope to gain a basic understanding of
management information systems and how they can benefit a business. One day I hope
to be some type of manager in a business and I want to be able to have an
understanding of all of the various technologies vital to the businesses
success.
After reading the article I learned the importance of
information systems in a in a business. With
technology changing at such a rapid rate it is important to have an Information
Systems department that can keep up to date with the latest technologies for a
business. I feel I am fairly good with new technologies and learning how to use
them but I don’t think I would ever want to work in the MIS world because in
the article it said it was a lot of individual office work and with hours up to
50 a week.
I also came into Nichols as a sports management major and decided to change it as well. I am currently majoring in General Business and I think I am going to minor in Economics. That is awesome that you work at Under Armour and a friend of mine works there and gets great discounts on all of the clothes. I agree with you when it comes to what you would like to gain from this class. I would also like to have a good understanding of management information systems because I would like to start my own business once graduating. What business would like you to possibly manage in?

I also started off at Nichols College as a Sport Management Major; however I was given some advice from a reputable Professor in Professor Hilliard that made me have a change of heart. I now am a General Business major with focuses in Management, Finance and Business Communications. I laughed when you mentioned that you see the “Friendly’s Hill” on the side of the Mass Pike because it’s my indicator on the Pike that tells me to take the next exit to get home. I noticed that you mentioned you were a waiter at a Friendly’s location this summer… Did the store you worked at close? The Friendly’s reformation closed a lot of locations. I also like that you want to work for Under Armor in the future.
