The article I
chose to research was titled “RFID: A Prescription for Healthcare Asset
Tracking”. This article explains how hospitals are installing RFID chips into
their equipment and hospital rooms to make sure patients are safe. Also they
are installing these chips into their supplies that they ship from
manufacturers to hospitals, these chips allow for the supplies to be tracked
and make sure they arrive to their destination safely and on time. Hospitals
are installing these chips in the hospital rooms and clothing that patients
wear so they can track the patients to make sure they do not leave and if they
need help. I believe that this is a good idea and I am glad that the health
industry is adapting this technology to use in their everyday operations. This
allows for their patients to be safe at all times and for their equipment and
supplies to be shipped and tracked. This allows for the supplies to get shipped
on time and these chips will make sure that the supplies will not get damaged
or lost. This is crucial because if a patient needs a certain pill or piece of
equipment to fix their illness and the hospital does not have it, supplies can
be shipped safely and these chips will track the shipment and make sure it
arrives on time and nothing happens to it. The article also states that other
companies are starting to adapt to this new technology. Companies like Wal-Mart
are using it in their merchandise to track it when it is shipped and other
companies are staring to recognize that this is a good idea. Using RFID chips
will safe companies money in the long run because it will allow for companies
to have a constant control over their inventory and know what they need to sell
or what they need to buy. I think more businesses should install this type of
technology into their operations it can only help their business and make them
more profitable. RFID chips are a good invention and are becoming more and more
popular with all businesses across the world.
Max, this was a great post. I enjoyed reading your response to the article. I agree with you completely that installing the RFID into hospital items and clothing is a great idea. My mother works in a hospital and has told me about several cases when extremely ill patients try to leave the hospital out of confusion. They believe they don’t need to be there when the hospital knows what is actually best for them. You also make a valid point in saying that if they are able to track items coming into the hospital it will help them especially if a patient needs one of these items in crucial time. With this technology the hospital will be able to plan accordingly if something happens during the process of items being transferred. During my article I read about how Wal-Mart uses a similar technology (like you stated) to track their inventory and I agreed with my article that it is a good idea as well. Great response Max.
